Our Stay at Essque Zalu Zanzibar resort
Tanzania, Africa

So, a few years ago my sister and I did a thing! We went on an African Holiday to Zanzibar Tanzania. And, it was AH-MAZING!!! We didn’t have the time to do safari so we opted for a stay on the beautiful island of Zanzibar. We couldn’t have chosen a more perfect resort than Essque Zalu Zanzibar and here’s why…
Getting There.
The flight was a long and uneventful one, but our anticipation of seeing the Motherland for the first time kept us alert. On our initial arrival to Ethiopia, we could barely contain our excitement.

Tired but happy on our African Holiday.
First we needed to take a flight from Ethopia to Dar es Salaam. Once there, we had to take a ferry over to the island of Zanzibar. I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say it was a long, hot wait at the port. Also our checked bags got lost in transit (side-eye). Needless to say we were happy to have some peace and air conditioning when the ferry finally arrived.
Once we arrived on the island there were a ton of taxi drivers looking to assist any tourist who looked thier way. We found quickly found a driver and began the half an hour ride to Essque Zalu Zanzibar unsure of exactly what to expect.
Our driver happily described his city to us on the drive. He explained the colonization and history of Zanzibar and the effect of tourism on the locals. Tourism is a driving force on the economy and largely impacts the wealth and wellbeing of local residents. He was happy to see us there and very welcoming.
After some time we finally began to slow. There, nestled among village huts in an eerily surreal scene, we finally arrived to our destination. In front of us stood Essque Zalu Zanzibar in all its exotic glory. A privacy fence hid it from view of the inexperienced eye but as a seasoned traveler, I knew Greatness lied behind the scenes.

The Ambiance.
As young 20 somethings traveling across the world for the first time, it was a welcomed sight. Although our baggage was lost, we were hot and tired with no change of clothes (note to self ALWAYS bring a change of clothes and undies in your carry on) we happily roamed the grounds being as touristy and camera happy as we pleased!

The food at Essque Zalu Zanzibar is exquisite!
The grounds are gorgeous with plenty of greenery and nature. The jetty and view of the Indian Ocean from across the infinity pool left us speechless, particularly at night. The resort is very cozy and is a great place to relax and unwind on a long, peaceful African holiday.

This hammock was my best friend at Essque Zalu Zanzibar
We slept pretty hard that first night at Essque Zalu Zanzibar, and after a nice morning stroll discovered the breathtaking view of Africa with new, more grateful eyes. Our clothes had air dried from the previous night after a brisk wash in the tub.
We counted our blessings and welcomed the opportunity to go to the market and get some local clothing should the need arise. Much to our surprise, and delight, our bags were found the second day and rushed to the island that night. Courtesy of Essque Zalu Zanzibar.

Resort Festivities.
One of the highlights of our time at Essque Zalu Zanzibar was attending a beautiful wedding on the resort. The resort was festively decorated and a great time was had by all. I appreciated the authentic South African band that provided the musical entertainment at the wedding.

The Jetty
I definitely can’t leave out the wonderful spa treatments that Essque Zalu Zanzibar offers. I had a Swedish massage that was quite possibly the best massage I ever had. No stone was un-turned during the service. The ambiance was impeccable, the technician was delightful and the feelings were just right. If you have the chance to stay at the gorgeous Essque Zalu Zanzibar resort, do yourself a favor and invest in a spa treatment. It is definitely the icing on the cake.
Summary:
All and all, Essque Zalu Zanzibar is an excellent vacation spot for any crowd. The resort is beautiful and well-kept. The friendly, enthusiastic staff only adds to the ambiance of the whole place.
There were a few cons such as the bugs that find their way into the room, minor electricity issues, and the charge for bottled water. I would highly recommend Essque Zalu Zanzibar for anyone visiting Tanzania, Africa.

Wow, it indeed needs to be tiring to fly all the way to Africa. Looks nothing like I used to see in Europe, amazing!
It was definitely a long and tiring trip Paula. But so worth it once we touched the ground. This resort was paradise!
Looks like you had an amazing time, that hammock looks fantastic!
OMG, Jenny the hammock was HEAVEN!!!
Oooo looks so lovely. I plan on a visit to Africa one day but it’s so far from NZ!
Yeah that definitely is a long trip. But if you could pull it off one day, I think you would really love it 😉

This is definitely the most luxurious resort I have ever visited. And I’ve visited quite a few.

Thank you Jenn, it really was a lovely trip.
Wow, I’ve never been to Africa before but always wanted to. Especially the zoo, I would love to see all the animals! http://www.clairebearblogs.com/
You would probably love a safari then Claire! It’s on my bucket list.
I’ve never been to any part of Africa but that resort looks amazing! Especially the sea-view from the pool.
Alvin, the view was probably my favorite thing. When you are in the infinity pool you can see the ocean off in the background. Everything else disappears.
I’ve never been to Africa and I really want to visit quite a few countries in Africa one day, and to be honest Tanzania is one of them. This looks amazing and the photos are amazing!

This looks amazing!!! I always wanted to go there, but it´s soooooo hard to get there from europe
Really? Is it the long flight? Because we came from America and did a stop in Europe (Germany) before going to Ethopia.
